Alpacas live in herds on high-altitude grasslands of South America, where they mainly feed on grass and bark.
They have been domesticated by humans and are raised as livestock, with their shorn fleece used for textile products.
An adult alpaca weighs around 50 kg and measures approximately 2 meters from the tips of its toes to the top of its head.
When stressed or frightened, alpacas may spit foul-smelling digestive fluid at a perceived threat.
