Common Chimpanzee Pan troglodytes

Chimpanzees live in a wide range of environments across Africa, from tropical rainforests to savannas. They form communities of approximately 20 to 100 individuals consisting of multiple males and females. Within these communities, they repeatedly engage in a fission–fusion social system, in which they sometimes split into smaller groups and at other times reunite into larger ones. Females usually transfer to other communities, while males remain in their natal community, forming a male-philopatric (patrilineal) society. Genetically, chimpanzees share 98.8% of their DNA with humans.
