Japanese Night Heron Gorsachius goisagi

This summer bird inhabits forests below altitude of 1,000 meters in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and feeds mainly on earthworms and Japanese Freshwater Crabs. When Japanese Night Heron senses danger, its body thins and stops moving, which is thought to indicate that it is protecting itself by mimicking a tree branch.
