Amur Tiger Panthera tigris altaica
Tigers live in a range of forests, including tropical rainforests and coniferous forests.Among these, the Amur or Siberian tiger is the northernmost tiger.
Its scientific name is Panthera tigris altaica. “Panthera” refers to the leopard genus, indicating that the tiger belongs to the same group as leopards. “Tigris” means tiger, and “altaica” refers to the Amur tiger subspecies.
The Amur tiger is one of the largest among the eight existing tiger subspecies and is also among the largest members of the cat family.
