African Savanna
Lion Panthera leo
The tagline “king of the beasts” is well earned – lions are thought of as one of the strongest animals in the world. Their practice of living in prides is actually rare among the cat family. A pride is made up of one or more males and around 10 females and cubs. Females stay in the same pride their whole lives, but males leave the pride at around 3 years old and work hard to find a new pride. Within the pride, the males protect the group as leaders, while the females cooperate with each other in hunting and raising the young, and so on, with each living with a division of roles.
