ELEPHANT VILLAGE and Surrounding Area
The new elephant facility, “ELEPHANT VILLAGE,” has been developed into one of the largest elephant habitats in Japan through the renovation of the existing elephant house, the construction of new facilities, and the expansion of the outdoor area.
The habitat features a diverse environment centered around soil, sand, and water, with various enrichment elements designed to encourage the elephants’ natural and dynamic behaviors.
Visitors can observe the elephants living actively and comfortably from multiple viewing points, including the observation terrace, pool area, and indoor exhibit space.
Staff's Recommendation

The surrounding facilities near “Elephant Village,” including the “Friendship Garden,” the “Nocturnal Animal House,” and the “Monkey & Baboon House,” are also highly recommended.
At Friendship Garden, visitors can observe sheep, goats, and guinea pigs up close while listening to guidance from zoo staff during the animal observation sessions. Taking a closer look may lead to new discoveries.
Stepping into the Nocturnal Animal House feels like entering a cave. In the darkness, visitors can observe animals such as Egyptian fruit bats and brush-tailed bettongs moving about in their active nighttime environment.
The Monkey & Baboon House is home to a wide variety of primates, including white-cheeked gibbons and François’ langurs. The drill, known for its distinctive jet-black face, can only be seen at Tennoji Zoo in Japan.
